More Keys to Creativity Projects
Keys to CommunityDevelopment (Statewide) This project was developed to support the Keys in the Cities project. It proposes to establish a format that encourages, directs, and supports a small group of young adults to successfully develop and implement an arts and cultural project on their own, within their community. This template and its application is relatively universal and flexible for whatever large project the group would desire to take on. The example we use is a project that has already found success in many cities around the world. The format for this, “Keys to Community Development” (KTCD) is pretty straight forward and should allow for a high level of success.
Arts Outer Ring (regional) This project is being developed for the support of arts initiatives that exist outside the regions that receive the greatest focus from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing; namely the Old Town Neighborhood district, Downtown Lansing, REO Town Neighborhood, East Lansing, and the established arts community of Okemos. The "Arts Outer Ring" would then include the communities of Williamston, Bath, Dewitt, St. Johns, Portland, Grand Ledge, Charlotte and Mason. The purpose of the "Arts Outer Ring" is to bring attention to the arts programs that these areas are developing that lack attention from the greater Lansing community.
Greater Lansing Community of Arts Initiative (regional) Developed to help the arts community utilize funds more efficiently for advertising and cross promotions, to increase communication between organizations and artists, and program support and project development between various arts initiatives. The ultimate goal is to increase the arts and cultural awareness of the area and establish a cohesive network of support separate and different from what the Arts Council provides.
1st Sunday ARTZ (local) This is an on-going event in the Lansing Mall that occurs on each first Sunday of the month. Local artists are encouraged to participate in demonstrations and if appropriate allow for a hands-on experience. The focus is not necessarily on fine arts, but any creative activity that supports critical thinking.
In Our Studio (local, regional) We developed this project in the support of arts, reading and writing for early elementary school age children. One or twice a month local schools are invited to participate and listen as local celebrities engage the children with reading and various activities. Under the guise of a puppet theater we will explore music, dance. and other non-visual arts. The children will also be encouraged to share own work during this one hour event.
Arts Residency Projects in K-12 schools (regional) Keys to Creativity partners with various community programs to fund and otherwise support arts programs in local schools. We also exhibit student art in the mall outside and away from the galleries. Keys to Creativity is continually developing new and creative, educational programs. The development of tech programs for all ages, and emerging arts is of high interest for the Keys project. We are currently working on establishing program development in underserved communities with Keys to Creativity satellite locations to better serve the community.
